Ingeniero civil, emprendedor y cultivador de cannabis. El cultivo indoor con hidroponía ha sido mi hobby y pasión por más de 8 años. Siempre en busca de hacer mejoras al proceso de cultivo, con especial interés en mejorar resultados de producción y calidad, y facilitando el proceso para no ser un esclavo del cultivo. A pesar de que el cultivo de interior es altamente satisfactorio cuando se logra bien, es tambien muy frustrante dado que un mínimo error puede significar un problema de crecimiento de las plantas, o incluso matarlas. En busca de tener una alternativa que automatizara ciertos procesos críticos del cultivo, como el manejo de nutrientes y pH junto a las variables medioambiantales, nace la idea original de Cloudponics. A pesar de que el interés inicial fue el cultivo de cannabis, el cultivo de plantas hidropónicas es similar para alimentos y es ahí donde creo podremos generar el mayor impacto a nivel global.

Cloudponics was one of the few start-ups selected out of thousand applications into Start-Up Chile (round 11). His experience in hydroponic plant cultivation, passion for technological solutions and experience leading software and hardware developing teams allows him to guide the company's technological development and vision for the product market fit. Product Development ManagerGEPUCJanuary 2013 – December 2014 (2 years)Santiago, ChileHis role was to lead the development of an innovative technology named Panoram, which seeksrecommending improvements for productivity and quality of construction and mining sites, as well asimprovements to safety related issues. These recommendations come from a specially developedsoftware analysis of video footage taken on site. The development of the service included both leading a team of IT engineers in designing and executing an online platform for remote analysis, and marketing the service in construction, mining and industrial operations. Although the service was originally thought as productivity driven, the accomplishments in safety have made it a unique and groundbreaking approach for training workers. By showing the workers actual footage of the unsafe practices they carry out on a daily basis, Panoram has been able to reduce fatal accident risks from 96% to 7% after only 2 months of training. Civil engineering discipline leaderAusencoMay 2012 – December 2012 (8 months)SantiagoDuring May 2012 he was appointed as discipline leader for the civil works of the Antucoya project, owned by Antofagasta Minerals, in which Ausenco was a subcontract for Fluor. In this position he lead a team of engineers and draftsmen for the development of the dynamic heap leach and dump pile, keeping constant meetings with the client and firmly supporting the project's administration. Foreign Projects CoordinatorAusencoApril 2011 – December 2012 (1 year 9 months)Santiago, ChileHe participated both in tenders and actual engineering development of different projects in Chile (copper mines Ministro Hales, Quebrada Blanca, Mantos Blancos, Escondida) and Brazil (gold mine Suruca). He worked for the Suruca project as civil discipline leader, developing a heap leach solution for a complex and foreign scenario. Committed to the Ausenco One philosophy, he was trained to be an AutoPLANT super user and bridge between Ausenco’s HQ and the Chilean office that is implementing the software.During September 2011 he was assigned in charge of the coordination between the Santiago and Perth (Australia) offices to carry out a joint project for the first time in the company's history. The EPCM project was the Aktogay copper mine located in Kazakstan, owned by Kazakmhys. Ausenco Chile would design the heap leach. The coordination task was supplemented with support to the design and preparation of the offer for US$1.8 MM. During the months of January and February 2012 he was sent to Perth to coordinate the completion of the first stage of the project and give presentations both to the Ausenco Perth office and Kazakhmys. In order to carry out this task, his personality, managing capabilities and broad domain of technical English was essential.CTOMetalFoamJanuary 2007 – March 2011 (4 years 3 months)Santiago, ChileCompany founded with partner and father Joaquín Ruiz, who invented and patented a copper basedtechnology that has the capacity to eliminate pathogen such as fungi, bacteria and viruses in water. This technology was developed with the financing of CORFO for US $140,000. The development involved lab tests and later design of the application in the salmon farming industry. During 2007 the technology was sold to a large and prestigious company for US $340.000 (annual contract), obtaining unprecedented results by reducing alevin mortality from 80% to 8% in the first stage of salmon farming. By 2008 the industry was struck by both a financial crisis and a sanitary crisis. After a thorough validation of the technology during 2009, a contract with international standards was agreed with 3M as distributor. MetalFoam was included in the catalogue and sold as a standard 3M product during 2009-2010.In this venture he had an active role both in the research and development of the technology and in its marketing, visiting clients and developing custom tailored solutions for their specific needs.
